HM-117A Electronic Metal Detector finds the location and approximate depth of rebar, metal pipe, conduit, and metal framing through concrete and most non-metallic construction materials at depths up to 6in (152mm). This economical device is well-suited for occasional use or for preliminary scanning of large areas. When compared to precision rebar locators, this unit is less accurate, and bar sizes are more difficult to determine.
This unit is fast and easy to use, with a comfortable hand grip and one-touch operation. The sturdy plastic case is shock and splash resistant but not waterproof. The large LCD display quickly indicates both the location and depth of embedded metal objects and shows a large + (plus sign) on the display when nearing a metal object. The detector shows the depth of metal from the surface in both inches and centimeters and differentiates between magnetic and non-magnetic metals based on their magnetic properties. Location accuracy for rebar is approximately ±1in (25mm), dependent upon the size and depth of the bar. Included is a durable, foam-fitted case for secure transport and a 9V battery required for operation.
