MS-54 Marshall Compactor utilizes a 4in rotating mold and delivers 64BPM to prepare hot mix asphalt specimens for Marshall stability and flow, specific gravity, and void content testing. These new compactors are durable, produce accurate Marshall test specimens, and are designed with enhanced safety features for secure operation.
Mechanical compactors with rotating bases operate at 64BPM to prepare 4in (101.6mm) diameter specimens using 10lb (4.6kg) bevel-faced hammers. MS-54 models can easily convert to compact 6in samples with the optional 6in Marshall Conversion Kit.
Units feature heavy-duty construction with a 3/4hp electric motor that lifts the hammer to the precise height for each blow. They are also equipped with Gilson’s exclusive easy clamp mold securing system.
The user-programmable electronic controller can set blows between 1 and 999 and automatically stops the hammer when the compaction process is complete. This allows the mold to be inverted for compaction on the opposite side and ensures the same number of blows is applied for uniform specimen preparation. Current blow count and BPM are displayed in real time during testing.
Marshall compactors are fully enclosed, minimizing exposure to moving parts. A safety interlock system ensures the door is securely latched before the unit can operate, reducing the risk of injury. An emergency stop (E-stop) button instantly cuts power in case of an emergency, providing an added layer of protection.
Each Gilson Mechanical Marshall Compactor includes an ASTM-compliant oak pedestal with steel plate, an all-stainless steel hammer assembly, a rotating compaction mold assembly, and Gilson’s easy clamp mold securing system. Order additional mold and hammer assemblies to preheat components for a more efficient workflow. Compactors operate on 120V, 60Hz power supply. Add an “F” suffix to the model number to specify 230V, 50Hz operation, or an “S” suffix to specify 230V, 60Hz operation.
