Munsell Soil Color Book also known as the Munsell soil color chart, was developed with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service for classifying the color of the soil. Munsell charts are a standard tool used by geologists, civil engineers, and soil scientists. The soil color chart can also be used with rocks, archeological specimens, and other natural materials.

- GLEY 1 and GLEY 2 soil charts for submerged soils covers weak chromas and neutrals of blue and green hues.
- WHITE soil chart includes half steps from 8.5 to 9.5 in value with chromas of 1 and 2 for N, 7.5R, 10YR, and 2.5Y soil chart for carbonate, silica, gypsum, and soluble salt precipitates and evaporites. Also used for very light-colored parent materials, such as diatomaceous earth and volcanic ash.
Openings between chips allow easy visual comparison with soil samples. Illustrations of soil grain structures, charts for estimating proportions of mottles and coarse fragments, color name diagrams, and instructions are all included. Color chips are mounted on neutral gray, 7.25x4.25in (184.2x108mm) water-resistant pages in an 8x6in (203x152mm) loose-leaf binder.
