Soil Density Volumeter utilizes a calibrated cylinder to make rapid measurements of the density of cohesive soils. When the stem of the piston is retracted a 30cm³ capacity cylinder with a cutting edge is pushed into the soil. The core sample is then squared off at the bottom of the cylinder and the soil volume is read 0.05cm³ via a scale on the piston stem and a fine-reading vernier scale on the top face of the cylinder. The sample is then extracted for weighing by screwing in the piston and density is easily computed. This device is constructed of stainless steel and measures 3.75in (95mm) long by 2in (51mm) maximum diameter.
