Chrome Alloy Steel Balls are used with SS-30 Ro-Tap Sieve Shaker to help determine hardness and degradation resistance of the granular activated carbon sample in ASTM method D3802. These 0.5in (12.7mm) diameter steel balls are made of chrome alloy steel.
SSA-44 3/8in Steel Balls for Ball Pan Hardness Test are also used in the testing hardness of granular carbon, as well as for asphalt binder testing with the LP-16 Softening Point Ring and Ball Apparatus in determining softening point of viscoelastic bitumens such as asphalt or coal tar pitch. The chrome alloy steel balls are 0.375in (9.5mm) diameter.
