S-Type Load Cells measure tension and compression forces and have many applications for geotechnical and other construction materials testing. These load sensors are available in capacities ranging from 500 to 20,000lbf (2.2 to 89kN). All include a four-wire cable to output voltage signals for a two-channel or four-channel Data Readout (sold separately). They have top and bottom threaded mounting holes.
- For compression tests like unconfined compression or CBR/LBR, the load cells are mounted between the load frame and test apparatus or penetration piston.
- For direct-shear applications measuring both compression and tension, load cells are mounted between the shear box and a fixed point on the loading frame.
- For triaxial shear, Marshall stability, indirect tensile, Lottman, SCB, or similar tests, a uniform point of contact is required between the load cell and testing fixtures.
Note: Gilson machined steel loading buttons are purchased separately and threaded into the lower mounting hole of the load cells.
