Gilson Rice Shaker performs consistent, automatic agitation of vacuum pycnometers for the asphalt Rice test, freeing up lab technicians for other duties. It is also a useful deairing agitator for specific gravity tests of fine aggregates (ASTM C128) and soils (ASTM D854), as well as sample preconditioning per ASTM D4867 and AASHTO T 283.
The Gilson Rice Shaker features a built-in timer that measures up to 99min, 59sec with ±1 second accuracy. The mounted front control panel features a vibration speed controller and a three-position switch for manual or timed operation for easy use. Variable speed settings closely control agitation to avoid stripping of asphalt. The painted steel case has nonslip rubber feet, so no mounting is required.
Gilson's exclusive EZ-Clamp System quickly secures pycnometers or flasks to the machine. The clamping system is easy to use; push the buttons, slide into place, and secure the container with a quick twist of the knobs. SGA-12 EZ-Clamp Upgrade Kit is also available to retrofit older Gilson Rice Shakers to the EZ-Clamp system. SGA-11 Alternate Clamping System is available separately.
The SGA-5R includes fitted top and bottom plates for an exact fit with SG-16A or SG-18A Aluminum Pycnometers. Adapter Sets can be purchased separately for use with other pycnometers or Filter, Volumetric, or Le Chatelier Flasks.
A Digital Residual Pressure Manometer can be purchased separately for precise measurement of the applied vacuum during testing. The NIST-certified model is also available.
The SGA-5RT version has modified vibration characteristics to meet Texas DOT requirements, such as TXDOT TEX-227-F.
